Response generalization occurs when a subject is able to give various reponses when an SD is given. The extent to which a learner emits untrained responses that are functionally equivalent to the trained target behavior. (Compare to response maintenance and setting/situation generalization.)
Example of Response generalization
How are you?(Same SD) -> I'm fine
How are you?(Same SD) -> Great
How are you?(Same SD) -> Fantastic
Stimulus Generalization occurs when a subject is able to give a response upon being presented with various stimuli across people, items, locations or time. When an antecedent stimulus has a history of evoking a response that has been reinforced in its presence, the same type of behavior tends to be evoked by stimuli that share similar physical properties with the controlling antecedent stimulus.
Example of Stimulus generalization
How are you?(from mom) -> I'm good.
How are you?(from teacher) -> I'm good.
How are you?(from friend) -> I'm good.
